The 2017 Call is open to everyone.  Professionals as well as emerging artists are encouraged to enter.  The only limitation is that you must not have shown at our gallery in the last 2 years (in a solo exhibition) and that entries must represent original works of art.  The Gallery reserves the right to decide which artists will be allotted solo shows, and which artists will share the space in a Group Exhibition.  We encourage the inclusion of a community component in the form of workshops, demonstrations, artist talk or other community involvement strategies.  There is no size restriction, other than what can fit through our doors or hang on our walls.  (See Gallery floor plan below).

Exhibitors are requested to familiar themselves with the Gallery space PRIOR to installation.  We encourage you to stop by the Gallery at least 2 months prior to the exhibition to review your space requirements and layout.

The Gallery reserves the right to select the image(s) and design of all marketing materials used for the exhibition.  We provide Artists with 10 copies of the large 11×17 poster and 20 copies of the rack card, if you require additional copies there will be a printing fee.  Copies of the JPEG files of the materials can be emailed directly to you.

OPENING RECEPTION

Artists are expected to be in attendance at the Opening Reception of the Exhibition.  Gallery Hours posted are Tuesday to Saturday 12 pm to 4 pm.  Opening Receptions are scheduled at this time Saturdays at 12:00 noon.

SALES

The Gallery will accept for the purchase of the works: cheques made payable to “Burnaby Arts Council”, credit cards or cash.  Credit cards payments via Square and there will be a 2.65% charge if a credit card is used.    The Gallery will pay the Artist by cheque, deducting the commission and credit card charge.  The Gallery does not collect, nor charge GST at this time.  Works sold during the exhibition may be removed from the exhibit only if the purchaser lives too far away from Metro Vancouver to come back and pick it up.  Early removal from the show must be done with the concurrence of the Artist and the Gallery Curator. Where feasible and warranted the artist should replace the work in the show.

COMMISSIONS

All work, unless indicated as not for sale (NFS) will be available for sale during exhibition.  The Burnaby Arts Council will retain a commission of 30% of the sale price on all artwork sold during the exhibition.  Artists set the sale price on the entry form.  Additional fee of 2.65% per transaction will be deducted if a credit card is used for payment.

The Gallery understands that purchases may occur soon after an exhibit, to individuals who saw the work during the show.  The Gallery leaves the question of commission in such situations up to the fair judgement of the arts.  We suggest, however a commission on gallery generated sales or work sold that was created as a result of the exhibit for a minimum of one month after the closing date of the exhibition.

A cheque will be mailed to the Artist(s) for the amount of the sales minus the commission and/or credit card charge no later than a month after the closing date.

CANCELLATION OF EXHIBITION

If for any reason you may need to cancel the exhibition you MUST provide at least 2 (two) months notice.  There will be a cancellation charge of $500 if a cancellation is made under a month.  This cost is to cover all administration and printed material costs in preparation of your exhibition.
