About the Burnaby Arts Council
The Burnaby Arts Council is an independent, non-profit umbrella organization to approximately 90 individual, visual, literary and performing arts groups in Burnaby. The Burnaby Arts Council is devoted to developing further awareness and appreciation of the arts in Burnaby. It can issue tax receipts to donors for income tax deductions.
The Arts Council encourages participation in the arts by sponsoring numerous activities, including the Burnaby Summer Theatre for Children, Christmas Craft Fair, arts programs and exhibits, operating grants to full member groups, special project grants to member groups and scholarships to Burnaby graduating secondary school students.
Mission Statement
A critical role for the Burnaby Arts Council is that of advocate for the arts to the community at large and to all levels of government.
Priorities of the Burnaby Arts Council
- To assist in the development of local groups, companies and artists.
- To support groups whose programs create recreation opportunities for Burnaby citizens who enjoy participating in the arts.
- By education and programming, to cultivate a greater market for the arts in Burnaby.
- To encourage spin-off effects through the community i.e. to maximize the social, educational, and economic benefits produced by the arts.
