Lauraine Russell
Lauraine Russell says her talent was awakened as a result of a 1994 accident, for shortly after her release from hospital, she was moved to pick up a paint brush. It was a means to shift the focus away from her constant pain. Russell's paintings are vibrant and colourful, emitting an aura of happiness.
Although her medium is acrylic paint, Lauraine's work is often mistaken for water colour. Her painting technique creates this impression. Among other subjects, she delights in painting landscapes, boats, and flowers. She accepts commissions for portraits of animals, houses, and even vintage cars. Her commissions also include large murals. Recently, she painted a mural for the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) that was held in Vancouver.
In 1995, Lauraine was accepted as a member of Federation of Canadian Artists. Lauraine has exhibited her paintings at a variety of galleries in B.C., and has buyers as far away as Sweden and Japan.
