President's Letter
A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
As outlined in last month’s newsletter, the Burnaby Arts Council’s annual CELEBRATION OF SPRING opened with a well-attended reception on Saturday, April 26 and continues at Deer Lake Gallery until May 25. Be sure to come by to see this wonderful display of diverse artwork - and remember to vote for your favourite piece. The winner will be awarded a solo show for BAC’s next year’s exhibition season.
Some members of the board will be busy attending this year’s Assembly of BC Arts Councils’ annual conference being held in Maple Ridge at the beginning of May. We look forward to bringing back some fresh ideas and new insights by attending various workshops over that weekend.
The beautification program for the BAC offices and gallery are well under way. Work will begin very soon with the lighting improvements to the Deer Lake Gallery. Wheelchair access, along with landscaping work on the side facing Deer lake is also ready to begin. You will already have noticed the progress already done to the front yard.
The Burnaby Arts Council has been asked to assist with a new project being hosted by the City—a weekly program during the summer of free entertainment to be held at the Civic Square outside the Main Library near Metrotown.
Keep your eyes open for information and scheduling for the upcoming BCarts150 — Burnaby’s celebration of the province’s 150th anniversary which is being held at various locations around our city between May 25—29. The full slate of dates, times and locations for a wonderful VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM of artworks, photography, film, animation, graphics exhibitions will be outlined in the Now newspapers around the second week of May. The PERFORMING ARTS section of this gala festival will feature the most outstanding musicians, singers, speech artists, and dancers who will be coming to Burnaby from every region of the province.
Thanks again to the volunteers who have come forward to help cover the BAC office during Monica’s vacation.
Sincerely, Harriet Tuey
