The VSC was established in 1952, originally to provide painting instruction for a group of downtown businessmen. The Club has evolved through the years, changing its name and meeting-place and, after much heated discussion, finally admitting women as members. It has always, however, remained faithful to its original mandate: to promote an active involvement in the visual arts.

In recent years members have numbered between twenty and thirty, most of whom are active as painters in water colour, oil or acrylic. There is a wide range of experience, from near-beginner to fine arts graduates. Everyone is eager to learn and improve, and almost all members have taken, or are currently taking, lessons, either privately or at institutions such as the community centres, Vancouver School Board, the Federation of Canadian Artists, and Lower Mainland colleges.

Vancouver ketch Club shows have taken place at the Moat Gallery of the Vancouver Public Library, the Doctor Sun Yat-Sen Garden, Van Dusen Gardens, the University Women's Club, and Libby's Kitchen Restaurant.

More information can be seen at VSC Website. Individual members' websites may be accessed via links at the above site.
