The Deer Lake Craft Festival has been adding sparkle to the Christmas season for 46 years, and we are still going strong!
The Burnaby Arts Council is once again presenting the Deer Lake Craft Festival, coming Nov. 16 – 18 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
The Deer Lake Craft Festival is held annualy at the beautiful Shadbolt Center for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Avenue Burnaby, next to Deer Lake Park. We have continued the tradition of jurying artisans for entry and consider only those applicants with the highest quality, hand crafted creations.
This year we have OVER 60 artisans including: glass blowers, sculptors, potters, wood, fashion and jewelry designers, plus many more new artists participating! There will also be a great selection of seasonal food stuffs such as chocolates, mixed spices, Christmas cakes, cookies, jams, jellies, chutneys and even designer honey. Returning artists such as Violet Finvers’ creative glass work, Jane’s Honey Bees and her fabulous local honey to Sable Shortbread, and Coconoma! We are very excited to welcome NEW artisans to our event like Amo Tierra Botanicals (all NATURAL cleaning products), Joyful Creations and Art by Tay, just to name a few!
Throughout the weekend, you will enjoy a wonderful variety of performers this year we are very pleased to welcome NEW entertainment featuring the very talented Fandango Quartet, Coastal Wolf Pack, VR4U Virtual Reality Gaming – Tilt Brush, Bradley Barkman, and the Snow Queen from Believe Entertainment who will have all the kids up and dancing! Of course we have our returning favorites, the Smi(e band, Gord Oliver & Vaughan Swenson plus MANY more all weekend long! This is just to name a few that will entertain you over the festival weekend.
Bring your imagination to reality! You will be able to paint in 3D space with our friends from VR4U using Virtual Reality in a fun and welcoming atmosphere to help unlock the possibilities of the unknown! Unleash your creativity with three-dimensional brush strokes, stars, light, and even fire! Your room is your canvas. Your palette is your imagination. The possibilities are endless.
Volunteers from local Burnaby High schools will be on site to help with Santa’s workshop where you will find face painting, hands-on free art workshop and kids decorating their own free Christmas cookie baked fresh from Sable Shortbread. Kids will enjoy the art of cookie decorating with a variety of sprinkles, coloured sugars and icing. (limit one cookie per child during the weekend please.)
We cannot forget to mention the generosity of the City of Burnaby providing a festivals grant so that we may hire and pay local entertainment. We also greatly appreciate local businesses that have donated gift certificates, gift baskets and dinner vouchers. Many thanks to the artisans who have donated gifts to our very popular BAC Basket Raffle and a big thanks to the many performers entertaining us all weekend long. There are also daily door prizes with our grand prize of a $400 value, 2 night stay at Hilton Metrotown to be drawn on Sunday.
Visitors will enjoy live music and entertainment, door prizes and raffle draws. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to finish all of your Christmas shopping in one location; well before that December deadline!
