Deer Lake Park 2020 Calendar at the Deer Lake Craft Festival
Get this new 2020 calendar and support the Burnaby Arts Council. This fundraising calendar features 14 landscape images of Deer Lake Park. Designed to support Burnaby schools and community groups, the Burnaby Arts Council is selling it for only $8 – just perfect for Christmas gift giving and gift exchanges. At 9.75×12 inches, it fits nicely in a standard 10×13 inch envelope, so it can easily be sent to grandparents and relatives.
The calendar was developed by a local Burnaby resident, Kelvin Chan, who retired and needed a retirement project. His wife suggested he produce a calendar and because of the uniqueness of Deer Lake Park, he thought it was a perfect choice.
It just so happened that his first visit to Burnaby was in the 1970’s when he came to photograph the Oakalla Prison Farm for a government report. He toured the farm seeing the cows (as well as guards holding shotguns). What a gift to us residents that the former cow pasture was added to Deer Lake Park when the prison closed, and that it is now maintained as natural habitat.
Like other photographers who really enjoy the park in the fall, the view changes with each change in the weather. On many fall mornings, particularly after a rainfall, the park is covered in dew, mist or fog, favourite ingredients for landscape photographers. And when it snows, the park is an incredible experience for anyone walking through it. It is these many views which are reflected in this unique calendar.

Funds raised from the calendar sales will go towards programming for the Burnaby Arts Council such as the artist talks, Indigenous cultural engagement, as well as our many events! Thank you so much for your support.
