In light of the recent changes due to the Covid-19 outbreak, we have made some adjustments! With social gatherings paused for the foreseeable future, we have pivoted our 50th celebration from a physical exhibition in the Deer Lake Gallery to a print and digital publication. We are still accepting submissions but instead of a show, your work will be published! Because of that, we are opening up the submissions to not just visual arts, but also written and any other forms that are suitable for print publications! The topic remains the same, and this is the perfect time to dive into Heritage Burnaby’s online archives.
Call for Artists
In 50 years, Burnaby has grown to become a unique city. We are no longer just Vancouver’s next-door neighbor. The culture here has been shaped and reshaped by experiences, events, and action by the diverse individuals and communities that reside here. We want to be able to share that through the lens of the artist.
The Burnaby Arts Council is celebrating its 50 year anniversary of being a platform for arts and culture in the city of Burnaby. Our mission is to create a diverse presence for the arts in the city and inspire the creative minds in everyone.
For our 50th year, we want to spark conversation about this community and uncover Burnaby’s journey in the past 50 years. Where did we come from? Where are we going now? How did we get here?
We are inviting artists to contribute their perspectives to this retrospective. If you’re inspired by the city in some way, we want to be able to showcase that at this upcoming exhibition in May. If you’re still looking for inspiration, we recommend diving into Heritage Burnaby and drawing ideas from the vast historical archives. We accept all types of mediums, from 2D to 3D, or even 4D (?!). Share your ideas with us no matter what stage it’s at. We’re marking our 50th year with a celebration of the arts in Burnaby!
