Love to talk about art? The Burnaby Arts Council (BAC) is seeking friendly and outgoing individuals with customer service skills to welcome our Gallery visitors. The Volunteer Gallery Attendant is an excellent position for someone who is interested in learning about and engaging with the Burnaby arts community as well as gaining work experience or developing existing skills in customer service in the Arts. 


  • Oversee the Deer Lake Art Gallery during open hours
  • Opening and closing the Gallery (Weekends only, 18+ volunteers only)
  • Greet visitors and introduce the current exhibition
  • Share and promote upcoming programming; answering questions regarding the gallery and BAC
  • Visitor tracking; input attendance statistics
  • Handle art sales and transactions
  • Occasional assistance with daily operations and support tasks


Time commitment

  • Minimum 2 shifts per month, 3-4 hours per shift 
  • Gallery hours are 12pm-4pm everyday except on Mondays the gallery is closed


Desired Skills

  • Experience in a customer-facing environment; comfortable dealing with the public
  • Strong verbal communication skills; friendly, personable and professional
  • Enthusiastic about art; willing to learn about the BAC, its programs, exhibitions and events
  • Comfortable working alone (Weekends only, 18+ volunteers only)
