Live at the Gallery is a monthly concert series being held at the Deer Lake Art Gallery. The February’s concert features local artists Matt Silverman and Wallgrin. The event is being hosted and organized by the Burnaby Arts Council.  Live at the Gallery event will be held at 7 pm on Friday, January 19th, 2018.

Live at the Gallery is a chance to bring music into the gallery setting, to connect the visual and the musical arts, and the fans of both. Live at the Gallery is an exciting mix of art and sound! From the sweet sounds of classical music to chilled out beats of local folk bands. Expect the unexpected!

The Burnaby Arts Council are passionate about promoting the arts as a vital component of our city’s culture. We take great pleasure in offering this FREE music concert series and welcome you to the Deer Lake Art Gallery! Live at the Gallery is an opportunity for Deer Lake to have another regular venue for local musicians to play and local enthusiasts to listen. It also provides an opportunity to subvert the often rigid structure of an art gallery by having an interactive presentation being held within it.

Silverman is from Burnaby, BC, a Capilano University graduate and holds a Bachelor in Performance specializing in the classical guitar from the University of Victoria. He started playing the bass at age 13 and gradually switched to electric guitar, eventually finding the classical guitar. Matt performs solo or with the Capilano Guitar Trio at public and private events around the lower mainland. More recently he has been composing original instrumental music for the guitar. Matt is also a full time private music instructor at Neil Douglas Guitar Shop in New Westminster where he has over 50 students.

Wallgrin is the experimental art-pop solo project of composer, violinist, and vocalist Tegan Wahlgren.
Harsh screeches, angelic choirs, mangled noises, and soaring strings.  With reverence for female mythological figures, Wallgrin delves into the space between extremes of beauty and dissonance, expressed through layers of strings and exploratory human vocals. Self-produced recorded material incorporates a variety of eclectic instruments, drum machines, and field recordings, while live performances consist mainly of violin and vocal electronic manipulation. Wallgrin is now working on a debut album entitled Bird/Alien, due for release in 2018.
