The Burnaby Arts Council is passionate about promoting the arts as a vital component of our city’s culture. We take great pleasure in offering this FREE music concert series and welcome you to the Deer Lake Art Gallery!
Live at the Gallery is a chance to bring music into the gallery setting, to connect the visual and the musical arts, and the fans of both. This performance series is an exciting mix of art and sound! From the sweet sounds of classical music to chilled-out beats of local folk bands. Expect the unexpected!
This year our Live at the Gallery series will be opening with our first concert, Renewal of Energy. As we enter this year and after so many things our world has gone through in the past couple of years, it is time to renew ourselves and the energy around us. We are opening the year with a concert that allows us to dig deeper into ourselves and find a new light within us. Let’s make 2022 different even in the middle of chaos. Let’s find light where there is so much uncertainty.
Our Musicians for this concert:
Eddie Lam is a Vancouver-born music scene veteran with one of the most diverse musical portfolios in town. A three-time Whammy Award winner for the best piano player (and the first Chinese Canadian to win a Whammy Award), he is most known for being the frontman for local all-Asian rock band Cry of Silence, one of the instrumentalists in Vancouver-based cover band The Naturals who coordinate live band karaoke experience called Rockaoke Live, and host plus piano man for Piano Karaoke Night. Ed can also be found playing as a solo performer, merging members from his bands to form the Eddie Lam All-Star Band, and hosting other live shows with unique formats featuring Vancouver’s finest local musicians. In the middle of the 2020 Pandemic, Eddie has increased his presence online. He utilizes YouTube to make unique song covers, but he is also well known for using TikTok to create quick and easy guitar chord tutorials for acoustic guitar players teaching what chords to play for easy hit songs in just under one minute. He can also be found on Twitch and TikTok doing piano lounge live streams on some weeknights and weekends. He also goes live on Instagram hosting an online talent show to allow musicians all over the world to perform. Ed can also be found on some occasions hosting a podcast called Music Talk Mondays discussing various music-related topics plus open Q&A.
Ryan Fischer is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Previously, he wrote and directed a series of award-winning personal documentaries that screened internationally in festivals and on TV. Ryan began writing songs as an impulse to get through tough times in Toronto where he was struggling to make films and pay the rent; songs initially meant to only cheer and empower himself until the songs took over and led him to pursue a new career. His songs mix self-deprecating humour with recurring themes of self-doubt and a longing for solace. As a celebration of his own and the world’s collective human flaws, music is Ryan Fischer’s way of coming to a place of jubilant acceptance and inner freedom. His first single “About the Future” garnered positive reviews: “Fischer has written a song that can go on to define a generation of people against a particular agenda, all united through a great operatic outro that seems to draw its roots from the best of Billy Joel and Queen.” – Sinusoidal Music. Ryan Fischer released his debut album “Commercials For Heaven” in the fall of 2021.
